Zoltan Horvath

 Zoltan was born in Central Europe, Hungary and immigrated to America with his family during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, where his father and extended family were sought by the Communist Russians in retaliation for being freedom fighters against the Communist’s tyrannical regime.

Zoltan attended N.Y.C. School of Music & Art and Performing Art and enlisted in the United States Army after graduation, Zoltan Honorably served from November of 1968 until November 1970, He served with the 519 Military Police in 1969, an elite  control group who participated in containing civil unrest during a  very contentious time in America. He then served in Viet Nam in 1970 with the 504th Combat Military Police with responsibilities ranging from combat support, security for tactical operations control (TOC), assisted in drug control operations with the I Corps Provost Marshal’s office and general civilian and Military Police duties.

Zoltan's first job out of the military  in 1971 was as a commercial artist for a New York City based advertising firm and then as a self-employed entrepreneur for 45 years in the building and construction industry

 Zoltan is married to his lovely wife Maria, and has 5 children: Lexis 26, Paxton 24, Zoltan III 24, Laszlo 24 and Cleo 24 and a dog named Luke

 All of Zoltan’s children have attended and graduated through the Hillsdale’s public school system

3 of the Horvath children were long time members of the Hillsdale Voluntary ambulance service

 Zoltan’s wife Maria was long time Girl Scout leader

 Zoltan has been a Hillsdale resident for over 33 years.

Zoltan has been and continues to be very active in Hillsdale. He currently serves as a 2nd term member of the Hillsdale Council and was Council President in 2019. He has been and is involved in most departments of the town government to include: Fire Commissioner, Historic preservation committee, finance committee, DPW chairman, Senior citizens liaison, planning and zoning board liaison, Police department committee, Economic Growth & Development, E.M.T/Ambulance liaison , Public Relations & Communications committee, Our Town/Historic/Recognition committee, various sub committees and numerous volunteer organizations, prior to joining the Council Zoltan was on the Planning and Zoning Board and the President of trustees on the Library Board.

Zoltan  is a Past Commander of American Legion Post 162 from 2007-2012, and is a former trustee and 18-year member of the Post. He is a past recipient of Post 162 Legionnaire of the year award. He participates in Post 162 activities for Memorial Day, 911 observance ceremonies, Veterans Day and School visits to speak on Americanism.

  Zoltan has been teaching Winter Work Shops classes at the George White Middle school for the past 10 years.

 Zoltan conducts regular fund raising drives for the local food bank.

Zoltan has done fundraising for police officers killed in the line of duty

 Zoltan was appointed by resolution as the official volunteer town photographer.

In gratitude for the many freedoms realized in America,

the extended Horvath family has displayed a long history of community service as well as honorably serving in the United States Military: Two brothers, 2 nephews, 3 cousins, many in-laws have served. Now his son Zoltan III is currently and proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps.
